Just like seeds need healthy, nutritious soil to sprout, I believe a plant-based diet can be nutritious, healthy and safe foundation from preconception through to pregnancy, and beyond. And, together I am here to help you lay the foundation to nurture new life with a diet that is good for Mum, bub and the planet.
It began as a wide eyed school girl with a dream of being a livestock vet to ensure animals were being treated with respect and kindness. But after a deep understanding for the profession and the bureaucracy involved, my passion started to fade.
Full of a deep yearning to make a positive impact on the planet and our health, I turned to nutrition and plant-based diets. I completed my Masters in Nutrition and Dietetic Practice and loved it. Working mostly in state-wide behaviour change programs that help prevent and treat chronic disease, 5 years in... I knew something was missing from my career.
Mum and baby need, I help plant-based women, just like you eat with confidence and meet their nutrient needs from “I want to feel my best and I’m ready to start trying” to “I’m pregnant and have no idea what to eat”.
My friend, celebrated the news of her pregnancy but expressed her confusion when she told me the doctor had advised to add meat back into her diet after she chose to eat plant-based in the lead up to her pregnancy.
I felt disheartened and worried about the dietary changes she had been recommended.
They were out-of-date and as a result I watched the frustration, confusion and overwhelm escalate.
And, of course it's an eating pattern that is predominately plant-based.
My friend shared with me she was going plant-based to help with your IVF journey.
I looked up the evidence around plant-based diets for fertility and pregnancy and everything I read pointed to the Mediterranean Diet.
A way of eating that I was connected to (I have an Italian family), and a diet that was best known for contributing to long, healthy lives. It wasn't just about the food, but connection.
It aims to help us slow down, connect with where our food comes from, to family and to the land. Plus the research shows this way of eating with extra nuts and olive oil can reduces the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus. [3]
So, I up-skilled in fertility and pregnancy nutrition with one the best Fertility and Pregnancy Dietitians out there to ensure I wasn’t missing anything and knew that the biggest concerns facing plant-based women was making sure they were meeting their macronutrient and micronutrient requirements with plants…
...because just like any eating pattern a plant-based diet isn’t always healthy.
I'm here to help you eat with confidence from “I want to feel my best and might start trying next year” to “I’m pregnant and need help staying plant-based while navigating, bloating, constipation...nausea, vomiting...”
Whether it be my digital products, programs or meal planning membership, I can’t wait to help you grow a healthy baby and stay plant-based.
Here’s to a kind, sustainable planet (and pregnancy).
Within a year of Plantful Pregnancy Sprouting, I had helped more than 40 plant-based pregnant mamas grow healthy baby’s. And honestly nothing brings more joy than to hear the arrival of tiny *healthy plant-based* humans Earthside.
Fast forward to 2023, and this number has grown to over 100 predominately and exclusively plant-based women.
It doesn’t matter if you are predominantly plant-based, exclusively plant-based or just want to eat more plants in the lead up to and during pregnancy...
